Fort Washakie High School is a full time onsite high school in Fort Washakie. WeAVE is a supplemental program operated by Fort Washakie High School. Other Wyoming school districts partner with WeAVE to offer online classes to their students. WeAVE students remain full time students at their local high school. The home high school counts that student's ADA/ADM and issues credit for WeAVE courses.
How much does it cost to attend FWHS?
Nothing. FWHS is a public charter school operated by Fremont County School District #21. It is funded just like any other Wyoming public school.
Can I get a real high school diploma from FWHS?
Yes, your diploma is a bona fide document that you completed all of the required courses to graduate from a Wyoming high school. Our diplomas are accepted by every college and university in the United States. We are accredited through the North Central Accreditation (NCA) and CITA.
How will I know that I am ready to take online classes?
Part of your application process will include the READI assessment. This assessment will give you a excellent report on your strengths and weaknesses regarding online learning. It will not test academics, but of personal traits that you have, and whether you are likely to be successfully in online classes.
Are your classes easier than regular high school classes?
No, our classes are not easier that regular high school classes. In online classes you will have the same content and materials that you would in any face-to-face course. Most students will say that they are harder because you have to be motivated to complete them in a timely manner. However, students also say that they remember more than they did in a face-to-face class.
Do I have to be a full time student to take courses from FWHS?
It depends. If you live in or near Fort Washakie you can apply to be a full time student at Fort Washakie High School. If you cannot attend onsite on a regular basis you need to work through your local high school principal or counselor. We do not allow students to be "virtual" students. They must attend a face to face high school, either in Fort Washakie or another Wyoming high school.
Do you provide computers?
On rare occasions we will provide students computers for use at their home. As a general rule, computers are available at school and you need to use your personal computer if you plan on working from home.
Can anyone be a student at Fort Washakie High School?
No. We screen every applicant to ensure that our system is the best fit for your educational goals. Students have to be self-motivated and engage themselves in their classes.
Is it mostly about reading and taking tests?
There is a lot of reading that is involved in your course work. However most courses are highly visual with graphics, audio, and video.
Will I still be able to interact with teachers and other students?
Yes! You are not alone in your classes. Although the school focuses on you as an individual student, you are in a classroom full of other students. These students may be from one school district or they may be from different districts across the entire state of Wyoming.
You are often required to post messages to other students through threaded discussions or you may be encouraged to enter a chat room hosted by your teacher.
How will you know if I am actually attending my classes?
We are able to see how much time you are spending in each course. In fact, we can see how much time you spend in the each part of every course, reading, testing, and reviewing. You cannot hide in the back of the classroom in an online class.
Is there someone I can talk to if I need help?
Yes. FWHS operates from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. 307-335-0142 Also, each individual teacher posts office hours and many provide after-hour numbers in case you need to reach somebody.
If you send an email to your classroom teacher, you will usually get a response back within 12 hours.
A 24 hour help desk is also available from eCollege. Their number is 303-873-0005. A help desk real time"chat" is also available once you log into your class.
How many courses can I take at a time?
As a Fort Washakie High School student you will take a full course load over the entire school year. We will work with you on how many classes you will take at any one time, but usually two to four classes at a time, depending on how many face-to-face you attend.
Can I ride the bus to school?
Yes. If you live within the Fremont Co. School District #21 (Fort Washakie School) boundaries you can ride the regular bus routes in the morning and afternoon. If you do not live with FCSD #21, the WRTA has many routes across Fremont County. The WRTA bus will drop you off at the Fort Washakie campus.

Can I still play sports?
Yes. FWHS had many HS sports. If we don't offer it here, you can play in a neighboring district. But all athletes must be eligible with the WHSAA policy.

Do I have to take the PAWS test?
Yes, you have to take the 11st grade PAWS test unless you've already scored proficient in a particular area during a previous school year.

We do not charge your resident district a tuition fee. However, if you drop your class without finishing within a calendar year (365 days) we will charge your district a $500 drop fee. Your resident school district may choose to charge you a fee, but that does not go to WeAVE or Fremont Co. School District #21.
I need to graduate in a short time, can WeAVE help me?
Yes! But you have to work very hard to complete a semester long course in a short period of time. Our teachers will go out of their way to grade assignment quickly and give you feedback. You will need a strong work ethic and support from your friends and family to accomplish your goals. You are the one most responsible for getting your classes completed before graduation day.

There are several differences between the WeAVE learning platform and Nova Net; however, we encourage you to examine our Demo course on the WeAVE web page and see for yourself. We think that you'll see a remarkable difference between the two. In fact, we think that you will like ours better. Every WeAVE class has a real, Wyoming certified teacher on the other end working closely with you to help you through your class. Nova Net does not offer that.

Your resident district must have an MOU signed by the superintendent and a trained WeAVE coordinator that can help you with scheduling requests and your online classes. Start by talking to your local high school's counselor or principal. Many Wyoming school districts already work with WeAVE and yours may be one. If your resident district does not have an MOU signed with WeAVE, again talk to your local principal or counselor and tell them you want to take classes from WeAVE so the MOU process can begin.

Do you provide computers?
No. WeAVE does not provide students with computers. Many districts allow students to use school computers for WeAVE classes; but be prepared to use your personal computer if you work on WeAVE classes outside of your high school. Internet access, an email address, and simple Office programs are all you need to take WeAVE classes. Many public libraries have computers that meet these requirements if you don't have your own computer. Students are most successful if they have consistent access to a computer with all the required software so they can work on classes whenever the opportunity is available.
